Two-time premiership defender, Josh Hunt, spoke to SEN radio on Monday morning about the Cats’ last three weeks of football after claiming victory once again over the Hawks.
After a shock loss to Brisbane in Round 13, the Cats have turned it around with two strong wins over dangerous opponents, Fremantle and Hawthorn.
Hunt admitted the devastating loss at the GABBA was a wakeup call, a few home truths were spoken in the aftermath and everyone was held accountable for their actions.
“Everyone went back out there (after the loss) and went back to playing for each other and respecting each other.
“Also respecting the game and getting back to the basics of what we know we do best,” Hunt said.
The Cats’ last two games have been their most complete performances of the season according to Hunt who says they were able to play the way they wanted as a team despite it not showing on the scoreboard.
“I think we are building and still getting better and better and there’s things we can get better on but as a whole we’re not having the same drop off as we did against Brisbane.
“We are playing a few more consistent quarters which is what we’re after but we are under no illusions that we’ve still got a fair way to go.”
The interchange infringement, which Hunt was right in the centre of on Saturday night, he puts down to a simple mistake but said the Cats were lucky it didn’t cost them a win.
“I was standing on the bench and we had three guys come off and I knew there was three guys sitting down behind me when I went on.
“I thought ‘alright, I’m good to go, there are three guys on the bench and away we go’.
“Obviously Tom Lonergan was coming to the bench as well but he got sent back, I think that might have been the confusion with the interchange steward, he thought I was actually going on for Tom Lonergan.”
When asked whether the interchange infringement penalty was too great Hunt disagreed.
“The rule is in there and we’ve just got to abide by it.”
