The Cats were so excited to have one of their greatest talents, Travis Varcoe, back on the field, before the speedy youngster had to be taken off once again due to injury.

Having only played one game last season after suffering from a serious foot injury, Varcoe didn't waste any time in finding his feet, displaying only quality football from round one.

Unfortunately after Saturday night’s win against the Blues, Varcoe now finds himself in a similar situation to last year and is again forced to watch from the sideline, after he dislocated his shoulder early in the first quarter.

Football manager, Neil Balme, confirms that surgery looks likely for Varcoe, however, he also believes that his return to the track shouldn’t take as long as his previous injury, and he will be back making his mark when it really matters.

"I would be surprised if he didn't have surgery," Balme told Fairfax and News Limited.

"He's still got to talk to the surgeon. Our docs are saying almost certainly (surgery), but you have still got to go through that process, so you never know.

"He was pretty disappointed. He has had a wretched run, but it's not out of the question (for him) to have an impact this year."
