Geelong has named their Round 6 team to play Brisbane at the SCG on Thursday night.
Sam Simpson has been rewarded for a consistent string of performances during match simulation in recent weeks.
The 22-year-old will play his first AFL game since Round 17, 2018.
Last year's VFL Best and Fairest winner is likely to rotate between the wing and as an inside midfielder against the Lions.
"The highlight of his game at the moment is his ability to use the ball. His kicking over the last two games has been elite with his decision making," Shane O'Bree said post Geelong's last match simulation session.
Simpson comes in for Jack Steven who has been managed.
Lachie Fogarty, Jordan Clark, James Parsons and Zach Guthrie have been named emergencies.
Superstar Patrick Dangerfield will play his 100th game for Geelong.
Thursday night's game will commence at 7.40pm and be televised on Channel Seven.
