GEELONG midfielders Mitch Duncan and Quinton Narkle will undergo scans on Friday to assess the damage of hamstring injuries sustained in Thursday night's win over Brisbane. 

Both will travel with the team to Perth on Saturday ahead of matches against Collingwood, West Coast and Fremantle, with the Cats hopeful the injuries are on the "minor" end. 

Despite the pair being ruled out at quarter-time, the Cats kicked nine unanswered goals through the second and third terms to storm to a 27-point win at the SCG. 

"I don't know whether this is a positive or not, but they were both issues where they were either pushed or really stretching," coach Chris Scott said post-match

"It wasn't the standard 'hammy' where they were running and it came out of nowhere. The initial feedback is that they were both minor. 

"Duncan was assessed for a long time and there was the real possibility he could come back, so I think that was a good sign."

The Cats have travelled with their full squad, with their reserves players to play a scratch match against Collingwood in Sydney on Friday night. 

Scott emphasised the need for squad depth over coming weeks with clubs preparing for extra matches in a condensed period off four or five-day breaks. 

He pointed to the performance of Sam Simpson, who collected a game-high 27 disposals playing his first game in 729 days.

"Sam Simpson has been just on the edge of our team for a long time and there's a fair group of them, actually, through no fault of their own have found themselves out of our team," Scott said. 

"It gives us great confidence Sam could come in and do a job and I think there will be others over the course of the next 4-6 weeks that will do a similar thing. That's our hope, anyway."
