Steven Motlop is feeling positive about the young squad of players that have joined the Cats and is feeling revved up for 2013.

He believes all the boys are looking good and are ready to hit the ground running after having an exciting preseason.

‘’We’re flying I reckon, (there was) a lot of running this preseason and the guys look fit. (We’re) a young squad now and it’s exciting,’’ Motlop told Cats TV.

The main message from senior coach, Chris Scott, for the young entertainer on and off the field is to keep focused and to take control of his own game. And as a team, Scott wants to see the boys play the ball out with confidence and to concentrate on key structures.

‘’For me, just to keep taking the game on, just play my game, (and) as a team to be confident in our structures and make it work,’’ Motlop said.

Motlop believes the Cat’s continued success stems from the hard work that the club receives on a daily basis from all the coaches and recruiting staff.

‘’I think the club has done well recruiting and have brought (good players) into the club,’’ Motlop said.

Motlop describes Vardy, Varcoe and Menzel as big game players and believes they'll be a crucial addition to the team once they return.

‘’They’re very big for us, they all play in different areas and give us something big in the game, they’re all big game players and do the good things that we want them to do in the team,’’ Motlop said.

Motlop is pleased with the new recruits, McIntosh, Caddy and Rivers, and he is confident that they’ve provided the club with some new and valuable tricks.

‘’They’ve brought a bit of freshness into the club, new faces and they’ve got a bit of experience at other clubs too, so we’re using that to learn off them,’’ Motlop explained to Cats TV.

‘’Even just with Riv, I’ve been doing some contestant marking with him and at Melbourne he’s had to play against the best players every week.

‘’Obviously Melbourne, when they’re not going too well, get a few entries inside fifty and he’s had to stop the big powered forward, so he’s been good helping me there.’’

After seeing how, Jordan Schroder, trains and plays his game, Motlop, is convinced that he holds a lot of potential and can see him becoming a very beneficial player for the Cats in the next coming months.

‘’I’d say Jordan Schroder, he just plays the way we want (him) to play at Geelong Cats (and) he does it right; he’s in and under and knows how to win and contest the ball,’’ Motlop said.

‘’I reckon he’ll have a big impact his year.’’
