Round One has finally arrived with Geelong set to face North Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday from 12.10pm AEDT.
The Cats have named a strong team for their opening round clash with first round draftee Darcy Moloney named to make her debut.
The 18-year-old Colac product found out she would be playing earlier this week when senior coach Paul Hood and assistant coach Aaron Black surprised her with the news.
Moloney is ready to make her mark on Sunday after an impressive pre-season.
“It’s pretty surreal at the minute, it’s come around really quick, honestly,” Moloney said of her debut.
“It’s a bit of a weird feeling – I don’t really know how to describe it – but I’m just honoured that the coaches trust me to be able to run out for Round 1.
“To be able to wear the hoops for the first time, I’m just really honoured.”
Captain Meghan McDonald will skipper the team for the first time since taking over the reins from inaugural Geelong AFLW captain Melissa Hickey.
The star defender is excited for Sunday.
“I keep saying excited, but I think that’s a reflection of how I am feeling," McDonald told Cats Media on Wednesday.
“I know the group’s ready to go and ready to show how far we have come since we last played them (North Melbourne) in the last game we played last year, so looking forward to the opportunity and showing everyone what we have got.”
For fans and members heading to the game, tickets must be purchased online via Ticketmaster prior to the match.
