For the third time this season, the Cats have proven they are more than capable of adapting to wet weather, with another strong performance in slippery conditions at the MCG against Essendon.

With the heaven’s opening on multiple occasions throughout the night, Geelong overcame the rain with a ten goal second half to overrun the Bombers.

Gary Rohan was one Cat in particular who thrived, booting two majors and recording three goal assists in a classy performance up forward.

Rohan joined Fox Footy after Saturday night’s win, touching on the mindset that the team takes and the aspects they  alter when the conditions change.

“We sort of knew it was going to be wet early, we went out as it started bucketing down,” Rohan told Fox Footy.

“We just wanted to play surge footy, get it forward and give the forwards an opportunity.

“Our big bodies around the midfield went crash and bash, which got it surging forward which got us through in the end.

“It was wet early but we backed our skills in, got our game going the way we wanted to so we knew if we could get our style going then we could play well.

“Tonight was a good step forward, but we look forward to a tough one next week.”

Saturday night was a third wet weather win for the Cats this season, including the Easter Monday win over Hawthorn and a victory against Brisbane at the Gabba.

In all three games the Cats have out tackled their opposition, showing their desire to work hard despite the tough conditions.

The win over Essendon also highlighted some of the Cats young stars, including Ollie Dempsey who picked up 25 disposals and booted two goals in a sensational performance.

Rohan touched on Dempsey’s impact this season, noting how important he is to Geelong’s starting line-up with his pace and elite work rate.

“He works really hard during the week,” Rohan said.

“We put him out in space and he works hard up and down the wing.

“I’ll call it now he will take mark of the year because he has a serious leap.

“We love getting the ball in his hands and he is going really well.”
