Amy McDonald spoke to media at the Cats open training on Monday

She might already be a three-time Geelong best and fairest, but Amy McDonald says she is still striving to improve as she enters her sixth season with the Cats.

McDonald produced another stellar season in 2023, averaging 23 disposals and seven tackles per game while also hitting the scoreboard at important times, booting three goals in the Cats finals campaign.

The ever-reliable on-baller has formed an incredible partnership trio in the middle with Georgie Prespakis and Nina Morrison, helping drive the Cats all the way to a Preliminary Final last year.

Despite her incredibly consistent form, McDonald said she is still looking for ways to improve and even floated the idea of learning to play in a new position.

“There is still quite a bit I would love to work on personally,” McDonald said.

“I think the fitter you can get, the better player you can be and the more contests you can get to.

“I am really trying to increase my tank and I would love to get a bit more versatile, maybe to be able to play a second position and change things up if things aren't going well in the middle.

“I'm just always trying to add new strings to my bow.”

The AFLW Cats preseason continues to ramp up ahead of their season opener, with the playing group prepared to put in the hard work to ensure they have another successful year.

Geelong will start their 2024 season at home on the 31st of August, taking on Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium.

McDonald noted that the team is tracking great so far through preseason and says it is exciting to have so much support from Geelong fans.

“It has been a great start, it is so good to be back here with all the girls,” McDonald said.

“I think we are all feeling it, preseason has been mentally and physically challenging but we are loving it.

“We have got the best fans in the country, we broke our AFLW and AFL membership records earlier this year.

“It is so good to see so many fans out and to be able to give back to them, because they give us so much.”
