Back into the top four with two games remaining, Patrick Dangerfield believes the Cats are building towards their best footy with the post season right around the corner.

A win against St Kilda this weekend will assure Geelong a spot in September, on the back of a thrilling win over Fremantle last week.

Dangerfield sat down with Meg McDonald on this week’s episode of ‘To the Final Bell,’ noting that some talented youngsters are pushing the team towards their best on the eve of finals.

“Ollie Dempsey is one that has delivered in spades, that energises you as an older player,” Dangerfield said.

“You get to experience that when young players come in and really stand up, owning their moments and performing well every week.

“The team has been littered with those stories this year, I feel like we are in a really good spot.

“We are not playing our absolute best footy, but there are parts of our game that we are executing really well and the challenge for us is to execute that for longer periods.”

Dangerfield starred in the win over the Dockers last weekend, collecting a season high 11 clearances as he rounds into terrific form.

In his second year as Geelong’s captain, Dangerfield is looking to secure a finals appearance for the eighth time in nine seasons since joining the club.

Dangerfield opened up on the mindset he carries into each week, providing insight into what has made him such a successful player over a long career.

"The game is about moments, and I miss plenty of them in terms of not getting certain parts right.

“But I think good leaders and good players look for the next opportunity.

“As disappointing as it is when you run into an open goal and miss, or you kick a ball out on the full, the game doesn't wait for anyone to get over it.

“You have to look for the next opportunity to impact the play, to impact our team.

“That has always been my mantra as a player, you can't spend too much time in disappointment because the game waits for no one."

Tickets are available for Saturday night's clash, as the Cats return to Marvel Stadium for the first and only time this season. Tickets and more information can be found here.
