Geelong can provide the following Deakin Health Update on a number of key players ahead of its final home and away game of the 2024 AFLW season against Kuwarna (Adelaide) on Friday.

Geelong winger Julia Crockett-Grills suffered an ankle injury early in the clash against Waalitj Marawar on Saturday, with scans confirming an ankle syndesmosis injury.

“Unfortunately, Julia was ruled out early in the clash with the Eagles. Scans have come back confirming ankle syndesmosis injury and she will miss the rest of the season,” Geelong Cats Assistant General Manager of Football Brett Johnson said.

Zali Friswell, who sustained an ankle injury but played out the game against the Eagles, will be a test to face Kuwarna, while Gabbi Featherston (hamstring tightness) is progressing through her rehab program, but is unlikely to return this week.

“Zali was able to play through after rolling her ankle and she will be test this week to face the Crows,” Johnson said.

“Gabbi has been cleared of any major hamstring injury. She will train this week after missing against the Eagles, but is unlikely to play on Friday night.”

After being a late withdrawal against Waalitj Marawar, Geelong has ruled out midfielder Caitlin Thorne with a hamstring injury, with the Club expecting her to miss one week.

In other health news, after making her debut against the Lions in Week 8, young forward Chantal Mason has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a stress fracture in her foot.

“Chantal has sustained a stress fracture in her navicular bone, which will rule her out for the remainder of the season,” Johnson said.

“We have been very impressed with how Chantal has applied herself in her first AFLW season and it was great to see her earn her debut against the Lions in Week 8. We look forward to seeing her back in action and expect her to be ready for the start of pre-season.”
