It sure wasn't the prettiest game at the MCG on Saturday, but Geelong won and that's all that matters.

The Cats' slow start, which saw them fall 23 points behind at quarter-time, was probably the key concern for Chris Scott and his coaching staff.

In fact, Scott addressed the issue in his post-match press conference.

But overall the occasion was a succcess from a Geelong point of view, with Patrick Dangerfield putting his stamp on proceedings in the second half.

On a day where there were few highlights, Dangerfield's long goal in the last quarter was worth the price of admission.

Geelong's 11-point victory has ensured the Cats will finish in the top four.

And it means Saturday night's clash with Greater Western Sydney at Simonds Stadium is an even more mouth-watering prospect.

The game is essentially a play-off for a spot in the top two and a home qualifying final.

Given the added potential for the match to be Steve Johnson's last at Simonds Stadium (if he can prove his fitness and win a recall to the Giants' team), the expectation is for another large and raucous crowd to pack into the Cattery.

So the permutations are pretty simple.

The Cats win, they finish second.

The Cats lose, they could finish as low as fourth.
