The Geelong Cats are set to celebrate the club’s Carji Greeves Medal Night – with this year’s medal set to be hotly contested. Here’s the second of three groups of Carji Contenders.

Gary Ablett has had a successful first season back at the Cats after seven years up north.

The 34-year-old has helped build Geelong’s midfield, averaging 29 disposals and nearly a goal a game.

The dual-Brownlow and Carji Greeves medallist missed five games throughout the season due to injury, which will impact his contention for the medal.

Skipper Joel Selwood has had yet another successful year leading the team and becoming the club’s longest-serving captain.

The three-time Geelong best and fairest winner averaged 27 disposals throughout the home and away season.

Racking up 39 disposals in round one against the Dees, Selwood proved early on he was in for another positive season. The seasoned veteran led Geelong to their 11th finals series in 12 years.

Sam Menegola continued to shine this year and reached 50 games of AFL experience in round 21 against the Hawks.

Averaging nearly 24 disposals and one goal per game the effective midfielder has continued to build as a reliable player for the club.

After being drafted by Hawthorn and spending three years at Freo the 26-year-old has flourished at the Cats and is now firmly entrenched in the Geelong midfield.

Tim Kelly was a revelation in 2018, with his standout performances earning him a fighting chance for the Carji.

The 24-year-old debuted in thrilling win over Melbourne in round one, racking up 27 disposals and also managing to boot a classy goal.

Since then Kelly has proven his worthiness, averaging 23 possessions and one goal per game and taking out the AFLPA best first year player award.

2015 Carji Greeves Medallist Mark Blicavs has had a successful season down back for the Cats.

The 27-year-old's defending ability earned him a spot in the All Australian 40-man squad.

This season Blicavs has stopped some of the league’s biggest goal scorers including the 2018 Coleman medallist, Jack Riewoldt.

The defender missed only one game in the home and away season, while recording 70 tackles and averaging four marks per game.
