Last week Gold Coast put up a tough fight against Hawthorn and this week Gary Ablett is looking forward to backing it up with an even bigger one.
“Obviously played Hawthorn last week which was a great challenge, and we’ve probably got an even greater challenge this week,” Ablett told www.goldcoastfc.com.au.
“I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty nervous but I think it’s a bit of nerves and a bit of excitement, but at the same time it should be good getting down there.”
Ablett looks forward to stepping onto his former playground, where he hopes the Suns can find the pressure to overturn the Cats.
“I haven’t played down there for two and a half years, I used to love playing on that ground,” Ablett said.
“It will be good to get down to see if many things have changed and hopefully we can put together a good performance.”
Ablett says the Cats play a very similar game to Hawthorn and he knows exactly what the Cats can produce when they’re playing at home.
“They’ve got so many great players, I think they’re very similar to Hawthorn, they are very good at the contested ball, very strong bodies so we’ve got to make sure we’re getting in and winning the contested ball.”
Despite the Cats strength and victorious history at Simonds Stadium, Ablett believes the Suns possess the strategies to contest.
“I think we’ve got a lot of speed on the outside as well so hopefully we can use that to our advantage and make sure we get it into our forwards quickly, because as you know they’re great at sagging off their opponent and getting back and helping each other out in the backline, so if we can get it in quickly we’re going to give our forwards a chance one on one,” Ablett explained.
