Cats urge fans to get loud
Geelong wants their fans to recreate the atmosphere the Cats have faced in opposition venues this year
Hocking wants the Kangaroos to be greeted by the same sort of hostile reception that the Cats faced when they played Fremantle at Patersons Stadium last weekend.
"Having been over in Perth, sitting among the Freo supporters and listening to the sound and energy they generate, I thought it was amazing," Hocking told geelongcats.com.au.
"They didn't need anything up on the scoreboard to fire anyone up. They started it themselves, and every good passage of play, they were invested in it.
"But I think we tend to lack that here. We tend to be a bit passive.
"So I'd like to encourage our supporters to show up on Friday night and really become invested in the game.
"We want them to ramp it up a bit and come along and make some noise and really intimidate North Melbourne."
The clash with North is the first Friday night game to be fixtured at Simonds Stadium.
Hocking, who ran around for the Cats when the stadium had lights that were barely good enough for training, is very proud that a game in the League's marquee time-slot is being played at Geelong.
"It's incredible," he said. "The lights have helped up mature as a club.
"A game is more of an event at night, whereas we see it a more of a traditional experience when we play day games here.
"It's really exciting for the region and our supporters."
The Cats hosted a Thursday night match against Adelaide in round one.
But although the game was a beauty, the occasion fell flat, with just 23,622 people turning up, which was 10,000 short of Simonds Stadium's capacity.
The club has since admitted that it doesn't want to host any more Thursday night matches in Geelong.
But the Friday night clash with the Roos shapes as a far different proposition, with most of the tickets already sold.
However, there will be 1300 general admission tickets (800 seats and 500 standing room passes) available to purchase on the day.
Those tickets go on sale at 5.30pm, with the game starting at 7.50pm.
"Just the fact that we've got North coming down is great," Hocking said. "They were the pioneers of Friday night footy.
"It's really exciting for both clubs."
