Early goals boost Cats
Mark Blicavs says the Cats took the win by going back to playing the Geelong way and kicking goals early
Geelong’s fastest player, Mark Blicavs, said the combination of a loud crowd and a couple of early goals steered the Cats down victory road on Friday night against the Roos.
Having been hindered by a few rusty starts over the past few weeks, the Cats didn’t hold back in the first half, doubling the Roos score with 10 goals to five.
“It was great to be under the lights at Simonds again and the crowd was fantastic,” Blicavs told Cats TV.
“We haven’t been playing our best footy over the last couple of weeks… but I thought in that first half we went back to playing that Geelong brand of footy that we want to play and it was fantastic to get the win.
“I think to get those couple of early goals gave the team a bit of confidence… we got the ball rolling and it was a really good start, which is something we need to keep working on in the next coming matches.”
This week the Cats will make a quick turn around to meet the Swans’ ominous forward line at the SCG on Thursday night. Blicavs admits that Round 11 will be another huge test for the Cats.
“It’s a scary forward line, there are plenty of good players down there…” Blicavs said.
“They’re in great form I think it’s going to be a great contested match – so we’re going to have to be at our best again to compete hard with them.”
