The VFLW Cats put together a great defensive display on Saturday but unfortunately it wasn't enough, as Port Melbourne kicked away late to record a 47 point win at Deakin University.
Geelong restricted the Borough for most of the day but were unable to impact the scoreboard themselves, before Port Melbourne booted four goals in the last 10 minutes of the game to runaway with the victory.
Abby Favell put together a brilliant performance collecting 29 disposals, while Lily Jordan (18 disposals & 15 tackles) and Johanna Sunderland (18 disposals) both competed strongly all day.
The Cats were able to apply plenty of pressure early in the opening term, restricting Port Melbourne to just two goals from 12 inside 50's, as they trailed by nine points at quarter time.
Poppy Schaap was rewarded for her forward pressure winning a holding-the-ball free kick, before converting the set shot to get Geelong on the scoreboard early.
The Cats defensive unit stood tall in the second quarter, conceding just one goal to stay 21 points adrift heading into the main break.
Abby Favell led the way down back with 13 disposals in the first half, while Lily Jordan was tough in contested situations laying eight tackles.
Geelong managed to hold Port Melbourne scoreless in the third quarter, but could not inflict any damage on the scoreboard, with the margin staying at 21 points heading into the final term.
The Cats continued to hold Port Melbourne for a large portion of the last quarter, before the Borough kicked four goals in the last ten minutes to close out the 47 point victory.
Geelong will travel to Windy Hill next weekend for the final game of the VFLW regular season, facing Essendon on Saturday afternoon to conclude their year.
